Designing Target Architecture for SI Enablement of a Core Insurance Data Platform

This engagement involved defining the target architecture for system integration enablement of an enterprise insurance data platform supporting reporting, lineage, reconciliation, and rules management workflows. My focus was on structuring a scalable, governance-driven architecture that was implementation-ready and aligned with long-term transformation objectives.

The Context

As part of a strategic transformation initiative, I designed the target architecture for the System Integration (SI) enablement of an enterprise-grade insurance data platform.

The scope included critical components such as:

  • Report Store
  • Data Lineage Management
  • Business Rules Builder and Editor
  • Partner Program
  • Client Extension Framework
  • Manual Data Correction
  • Balancing and Reconciliation

The objective was to define a scalable and execution-ready architecture that could support modernization while ensuring integration clarity across business-critical applications.

The Challenge

The organization required:

  • A cohesive target architecture across multiple functional modules
  • Clear integration patterns between data systems and enterprise services
  • Governance discipline for data lineage and reconciliation workflows
  • A realistic and phased modernization approach
  • Structural clarity strong enough to support commercial commitment

The architecture needed to be practical, defensible, and implementation-ready.

My Contribution

I contributed by:

  • Designing the target-state architecture for the SI enablement of the platform
  • Structuring integration flows across reporting, rules management, and reconciliation components
  • Embedding governance thinking into data lineage and balancing processes
  • Ensuring scalability and long-term maintainability of architectural decisions
  • Supporting executive discussions with clear articulation of architectural direction and implementation sequencing

The defined target architecture directly supported the successful acquisition of a million-dollar implementation contract for the program.

What This Shaped in Me

This experience reinforced that:

  • Target architecture must be both technically sound and commercially defensible
  • Data governance components like lineage and reconciliation cannot be afterthoughts
  • Architecture clarity builds executive confidence during transformation decisions
  • Platform-level thinking requires understanding both structural depth and business impact

It strengthened my ability to operate at the intersection of architecture definition and strategic transformation positioning.
